The History of Wells’ Dairy, Inc. Fred H. Wells purchased a horse, delivery wagon and a few cans and jars for $250 from a Le Mars, Iowa dairy farmer in 1913. Little did he know he was starting what is today’s largest family-owned dairy processor in the United States. More than 90 years later, the colossally creative artisans at Wells' Dairy, Inc., have turned the small local dairy into a full-service operation selling ice cream across the country and around the world.
How Blue Bunny Was Named In 1935 Wells’ Dairy held a "Name that Ice Cream" contest with the prize being $25. The contest was announced in the Sioux City Journal. A Sioux City man won the prize for submitting "Wells' Blue Bunny®." He not only submitted the name but also the Blue Bunny® character; a form of which is still being used today.
The Blue Bunny Brand Mission "To be the most respected, recognized and accessible national brand in ice cream and frozen novelties."
